When I was invited to review Grease at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford, I kept my response cool and professional but really my inner 12 year old was screaming inside ‘yes yes yes’. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched the film but it always feels like the first – apart from the fact that I know every lyric off by heart! Grease has seen me through girly sleepovers with my friends, right through to the break ups – it’s just one of those films that you can watch whatever the mood to cheer you up.
The film itself sets the standards pretty high when it comes to any other form adaptation and I was always going to be a tough nut to crack BUT and I have to say, I LOVED it – so much so I want to see it agaaaain! I felt so nostalgic watching it and was lost from start to finish.
The lead stars of the show are; Tom Parker – Danny. Danielle Hope – Sandy, Louisa Lytton Rizzo.
The lead actors themselves made me pretty excited before I even watched the show as I have pretty much followed Tom and Louisa for years as they are about the same age as me.
With any show that I go to see, I always find it so impressive how they manage to cram the whole film into a relatively small segment, but they do, and Grease was no exception. Every song was featured, as was all the main scenes that you would remember from the film. They also mixed it up a little and added some really funny bits to it too.
The whole cast was incredible, but hats off to Tom Parker especially. It was only just now that I read that it was his first ever Theatrical role – which you would never have thought. He played the role to a tee. Most of you will be familiar with Tom from his days in The Wanted, so to perform with a band is one thing but then to stand on stage and perform solo must be so daunting, but he absolutely nailed it.
If any of you get a chance to go to see Grease, honestly, GO! It is something for everyone. There was such a mix bag of people and a wide range of ages, from young girls, to us late 20s, to some in their 80s!
They are performing at The Orchard Theatre for the rest of the week and there are still tickets available which you can buy here. https://orchardtheatre.co.uk/Online/Tickets-Grease-dartford-2017
